Welcome To Day 2 Of “25 Days Of Christmas Sweet Treats”!
Last year I did “25 Days Of Christmas Cookies“. Please click the link to find all those wonderful recipes and please check back here every day for Christmas Sweet Treats all the way up until Christmas Day!
Are there certain kitchen gadgets that you own, that only come out during the Christmas season? I know many people own and love having a cookie press!
While there is a bit of a learning curve with a cookie press, I think they come in handy especially if you need to bake a lot of cookies over the season.
I had planned on using my cookie press last Christmas but a spritz cookie never made it onto my list last year and a few people contacted me telling me it was a shame that no spritz cookie made it on my 25 Days of Christmas Cookies!
So, I have made sure to include a few in this years sweet treats and I have to say, I do enjoy a spritz cookie now and then. As long as you take out your butter to warm to room temperature, there is nothing really “hard” about making the dough. Mind you, I have made some horrible spritz dough in the past, but if you do..don’t let it stop you, find another recipe till it works for you!
These cookies are simple and mind you, the dough is not wet or sticky by any means, it is fairly dry but no worries it should pass right through your cookie press. Do not over bake these little cookies, 8 minutes is just perfect. Make sure to remove them from the cookie sheet within 1 minute of removing from the oven as they get crisp.
Here is another tip when making spritz cookies, chill your cookie sheets! I put a stack of them in the fridge while I make the dough, pull one out at a time. It really helps the cookies come out very nice and much easier to “press” the dough into.
Merry Christmas!
- 1½ Cups Unsalted Butter (softened)
- 1½ Teaspoons Ground Ginger
- 1 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
- ¼ Teaspoon Ground Cloves
- ¼ Teaspoon Allspice
- ¼ Teaspoon Nutmeg
- 1 Cup Packed Dark Brown Sugar
- 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1 Egg
- 3½ Cups All Purpose Flour
- In a large bowl combine butter and spices, beat in sugar, powder and egg. Then beat in flour a little at a time until incorporated. The dough should be stiff (not sticky) and possibly crumbly, all you need to do is mold it with your hands.
- Force un-chilled dough through cookie press on to ungreased, chilled cookie sheets. Bake in preheated oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 8 minutes.
